“With more than 600 diseases and 400 disorders, the human brain remains the next frontier. My purpose is to help the most promising technologies and teams find their way to clinicians fighting disease, and patients in need of better therapies. When Carolina and Jose pitched the INBRAIN story to me, it was immediately clear that its graphene will bring a revolution in the field of neurotechnologies. The team has all it takes to make it true, and I’m excited and honored to be part of it!”
Prior to joining INBRAIN, Michel was CTO and co-founder of Sapiens Steering Brain Stimulation B.V., the Deep Brain Stimulation startup that initiated directional brain stimulation using arrays of electrodes. After the acquisition of Sapiens by Medtronic, he served as the Director for Research and Technology at the Medtronic Eindhoven Development Center. He subsequently co-founded Salvia Bioelectronics, an Eindhoven (NL)-based neurotech startup focused on delivering side-effect free, widely accessible bioelectronic solutions to people suffering from chronic migraine. As a self-employed consultant in Medtech, Michel has advised and supported multiple startups in the world, both on strategy, technology, and team dynamics.
Before founding Sapiens Steering Brain Stimulation, Michel has been a Principal Scientist at Philips Research, Eindhoven (NL) where he initiated and lead the Printing and Patterning cluster, and the “Microcontact Printing”, “Implantable Brain Stimulation”, and “Healing Environments” programmes. Michel is a Physics Engineer from the Free University of Brussels (BE), holds a PhD in Physics from the École Normale Supérieure, in Paris (FR), and has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Leeds, Mechanical Engineering, for 10 years.
